For me, the first thing people think of is the guy chewing bubble gum, the gold car, lots of rings on his fingers, black jacket, just looking out to be a sheister.

People who don’t know us really think we’re sheisters. But we’re not like that.

I’ve been here at A-OK Auto Sales in Porter, Texas since 1992. I won Quality Dealer of the Year in the whole entire state of Texas from my peers—which says a lot.

We stand behind our products. We have a very high number of repeat referrals. And that would not happen if we were not a good dealership. When you come here, you can buy with confidence because you can bring your car back if there’s any trouble— all our vehicles come with either a 6 month/6,000 or 12 month/12,000 mile warranty.

Even if you buy a car from us and something isn’t covered under warranty, we will still fix it and let you work out a payment plan. You can’t get that hardly anywhere else.

There are other kinds of misconceptions that we face when customers come in. Sometimes we’ll see someone come in with a chip on their shoulder and ready to haggle. A lot of them have been turned down for financing at so many places because of their credit history, and it’s not necessarily their fault. So they’ve been turned down by all the new car stores and bigger dealerships. They’ve often been treated rudely or differently when the salesperson found out they had credit issues.

That doesn’t happen at A-OK Auto Sales. Any credit problem, no matter what it is, we have seen it before. Nothing anyone says is going to surprise us, or embarrass the customer. We can help. We’re here to serve those people, here to help them.

Because of our attitude and the way we treat them and work with them, that suspicious attitude goes away.

Another myth is that buy-here pay-here dealerships make lots of money on cars and sell them only to repossess them and sell them later. That’s not true. That is the last thing we want to do. We want to work with our customers, keep them happy and in a vehicle so they will tell their friends and family about us. Having to repossess a vehicle doesn’t leave anyone feeling good, especially us.

Our goals are to help people with credit problems—no credit or bad credit—get reliable transportation and a car loan at terms they can afford. Most car dealerships are not prepared to deal with the credit challenged person. We are the specialists, this is all we do. We treat our customers with the respect they deserve.
